Who We Are
We are a small, surfer women owned & run surf and swimwear brand that supports ecofriendly and ethical practices, and provides affordable, sustainably and ethically made swimsuits for every body and made to last for seasons to come!
The idea for this sustainable swim brand was sparked during a surf trip where we had found ourselves literally picking pieces of plastic/ trash off of ourselves while surfing and doing an ocean clean up with the locals, finding tons of trash floating in the water, so we decided we needed to do something about it!
On our quest to find a way to repurpose ocean waste into something better, we found out it could be regenerated into recycled fabric and into something beautiful! We found an ethical manufacturer/ local seamstresses to work with on our designs and prints, and created a business model that would not only provide quality, ecofriendly swim, but would also give back to nonprofits that do good for the Earth and the beautiful humans and animals in it, and thus, Do Good Swimwear was born!
Sustainability:
Each swimsuit is made out of ECONYL® regenerated yarn from pre and post-consumer waste, such as, fishing nets and other nylon waste or from Repreve, which is made from recycled plastic bottles. These materials are then recycled and turned into a beautiful, soft, and comfortable material- perfect for swimsuits!
We create classic, timeless cuts in a fun, but limited assortment of colors, which you can mix and match so it will last for many seasons to come (read: slow fashion!) Slow fashion is the movement of designing, creating, and buying garments for quality and longevity. It encourages slower production schedules, fair wages, lower carbon footprints, and (ideally) zero waste.
Everything is made in small batches to discourage waste and we even use fabric scraps to make other things (hair ties, earrings, etc.) that we donate to women in need.
Do Good:
A portion of the profits from each sale goes to ocean conservation efforts (with Surfrider Foundation, Coral Gardeners, Oceana), planting a tree for carbon offsetting (with onetreeplanted.org and Trees For the Future which helps plant trees and assists farmers plant sustainable crops to help provide nutrients and nourishment to the soil, resulting in long-term ways to help feed their at-risk communities), and towards girls/women's mental health, education and life skill building (via Tahanan Sta. Luisa, a crisis center in the Philippines made for girls/women who experienced trauma while living in the streets and are trying to rebuild for a better life, Girls Inc., or Women's Global Empowerment Fund, which helps microfinance business loans and provides educational resources to empower women in Africa so that they can support themselves and their families and thrive)! We are all about women supporting women and supporting the dreams and lives of people in need.
We have also expanded our donations to local groups assisting friends in need, such as, No Us Without You, Groundswell Community, Color The Water, and local food banks. If you've got a non profit that you think we'd love, don't hesitate to reach out to us at dogoodswimwear@gmail.com.
Inclusivity/ Celebrating Body Positivity:
While we are still a small business, we have a big message! We firmly believe that every body is a beach body to be celebrated, and make a point of showcasing people that would not normally be seen in typical swimwear/ surf ads and magazines. Most of the models seen on the website are local surfers of different ethnicities, body types, and ages.
We are currently working on expanding our size range/styles to include a curve line as well as a men's line, so keep your eyes peeled!
P.S. If you tag us in photos of yourself wearing #dogoodswimwear on social media, you may find yourself as a model on our website! We love to see all of your beautiful faces and would love to share you with the world!
TL;DR:
Each swimsuit is an investment in looking good and feeling good. Not only are you going to look fabulous, you are also supporting the eco friendly lifestyle, ocean conservation, carbon offsetting, and women who need it most. You glow, girl.
